Michael
I had two down and the third was in front of me. Stupid Hunters, always in my jekking way. Licking the blood off my thumb, I kept my red eyes locked on the other guard. It was only a second, but I saw a flicker of that human’s life. Nothing useful at this moment. Sammy was still sitting behind his desk, watching, as if he was amused by this whole situation. He must have seen he was losing. Two of his Hunters were on the ground, bleeding, almost dead, and this last one was almost there. This one was a little smarter; he’s fighting with bladed brass knuckles. He had fired a few gunshots in the beginning, but in such close quarters, it’s useless to fight with a gun when you don’t want to harm your allies. Glad I don't have to worry about that. Since the start of this fight, one Hunter went down from failing to put down his gun, the second was pulling out a dagger when I got to him. I will give the second a point, my side is still bleeding from his quick strike. This third one though, it’s been a fistfight. Sammy’s chuckling caused me to lose focus. As I glanced at him, the third Hunter struck, landing a solid blow to my jaw. I stumbled back and he hit me a few more times. Holding my arms up defending myself, I sensed what Sammy was laughing at. Opening an eye, I confirmed it. Nathan was standing in front of the desk. No need for him to see me weak. I kicked forward, sending the Hunter across the room into the bookshelf causing several books to fall on top of him. I grinned. Amusing. Straightening, I dusted off my sleeve, as I spoke to Nathan. “Long time no see. Come to join me?”
His face told otherwise. He knew something was coming. When Sammy stood, I realized how seriously he had changed the game. “Nathan Saber, hear me, I, Samuel Hayes, your master, hereby order you to destroy that insignificant deo.” Whoops. I had let an order be given. I took a step back from Nathan when his eyes turned red and the life left them. Yeah, he was gone; he was just a body acting upon an order. This could be bad, very bad. Then again, not like Nathan and I haven’t had any fights between us. I raised my fists. Sammy’s grin was triumphant. Glancing at my arms, I finally noticed how much I was bleeding. Those damn blades had hit me more than I had thought. Jek, and I am willing to bet that Nathan is hungry too.
Damn he was fast. Dodging Nathan’s blows was getting more and more difficult. One more hit to the head, I’m sure that was going to the ground. I jumped back to see him standing there. The only way to free him was to get Sammy to release him, or I could kill him. That could work. Kill Nathan, which I can’t, or kill Hayes, which I would love to do. Glancing at the clock, the time was ticking away fast. Any moment there was to be more Hunters arriving. Nathan was merely buying them time. Another step back, my heel hit the door. Sammy grinned, “Thinking of running? My pet here will merely chase you down and destroy you.” Jek, he was right. Once given an order, it must be completed.

Taking a breath, I watched Nathan stalk toward me. “Not planning on running, just jumping.” A quick shadowstep later with claws ready, I had Hayes’ throat in my grip. Nathan stared at us, unsure of what to do. Perfect. “Come to destroy me and I will kill him. Stay there and your beloved master will live.”
I could feel the laughter from Hayes. “You think he’s my only weapon?” A quick spin later, he had my hand pinned to his desk with a knife in my side. His words were whispered, “I did not become a Master Hunter by simply observing, I’ve fought for years to gain the necessary experience and recognition. Your time here is over.” I grit my teeth as the blade was shoved deeper into my body. Through my own experiences, the sharp edges of blades pierced my body many times. Nonetheless, the pain was still excruciating. Opening my eyes to focus on Nathan, I could only hope he would remember. Promises and challenges given, to be taken, to be accomplished.
“My Master.” Nathan took a step forward. His voice as emotionless as the dead. “Your order.”
Slowly, the dagger twisted. Holding the grunt within my throat while Hayes’ dark laugh rang deep was a feat in and of itself. “Of course. He is yours.” Throwing me to the floor, Hayes stepped aside when Nathan stood above me. “Finish him.” The blood oozing from my side warmed the skin it touched. My arms, weakened from the Hunter’s blade. How pathetic. Picking me up by my neck, I remembered how strong Nathan was. My hands wrapped around his arm. Slowly, ever so slowly, his grip on me tightened. Air trapped within my lungs couldn’t escape nor could it enter for my breath. I have seen this before. Soon he would snap my neck, leaving me a ragdoll to endure his torture. Death would be my eventual outcome, but I couldn’t die yet, not before I could accomplish what I needed to do. Unfortunately, the blackness had begun closing in upon me. The heartless, emotionless deo holding me awaiting my demise by order watched cruelly. To add to the torment, I could hear my blood dripping onto the floor. Drip. Drip. Drip. Each lost drop screaming at me to feed, to live, to fight. I could feel myself changing. The instincts kicking in. My true nature, the demon, growing, rising to the surface to fight for its life. With all the years of it being held down, it was ready for vengeance, ready to spill blood, not of only humans, but of the deo killing me. Closing my eyes, I accepted what was to come.

Lily only stared at her phone. I was more concerned with the fact that Nathan was collared. How was that possible? He had always been the one to keep his eyes open and avoid complications. What happened that caused him to slip up? “Tell me, how did Nathan get the collar?”
Her eyes were sad as she looked at me. “I don’t know. I wasn’t there. He showed up one day by my father’s side and that’s when I knew.”
“Then why are we standing here? You want him free then do something about it!” My anger was growing. “He said you were trying to help him, yet it is a fight between him, Michael, and your father. So go stand up to him, show your father that you will get what you want.”
Lily’s frown deepened as she stood. “I have tried. Nothing works with that man. He’s human, but at times he acts like a deo, stubborn, hard headed, and especially greedy.” I wasn’t sure if I should take that as a dig or a compliment. Looking at her phone again, she sighed. “Let’s go. Anymore texts and they’re going to know this was my doing.” Grabbing her keys off the counter, Lily started for the door as she spoke to me. “I hate to bring you into this, but I might need your help. Come on.”
Lily’s driving was like a bat out of hell. I wouldn’t blame her. There was a burning in the pit of my stomach; we had to get there and fast. Her parking wasn’t conventional considering since we were mostly on the curb and about to hit the front fountain. Lily didn’t even hesitate. She was out her door and sprinting to the building’s entrance. Quickly, I followed her. I caught up easily, just as she hit the elevator button. Her foot tapping faster with each passing second. The doors dinged when they slid open. “Talk about a rush.” I watched as she repeatedly hit the button to the top floor.
“He’s going to kill him.” This elevator was faster than a conventional one. “If we get there before the worst, we might be able to prevent Nathan from regretting something else.”
Regret? Hate to say it, but deo don’t regret anything. We’re heartless creatures. Deo are as carnal and corrupt as any demon. Lily was out the doors before they opened completely. Running down the hall, she slammed into the large double doors at the end, swinging them open to a scene from a horror movie. Two humans were dead on the floor, one under a bookshelf holding his stomach, a blonde man with a soul eating grin watching as Nathan held Michael by his neck. Michael’s eyes were shut and his sharpened claws were at the end of slender armored fingers, his jacket covered the rest of his arm up except for the bits of torn fabric that revealed black and bloodied skin. Veins of black were creeping their way up his neck, he was changing, a final effort to stay alive. “What the hell?”
Lily stood there staring for a second as well. When I saw her move, all I heard was a feet hitting the floor as she ran toward Nathan. His gaze passed to her when she grabbed a hold of him. “Nathan, stop!” The cold look on his face didn’t falter. “Please! Let him go.” Nathan’s grip loosened.
“Saber! Finish him!” The blonde man barked his order at Nathan. That must be Lily’s father. He was the threat. Nathan shoved Lily aside as his hold tightened instantly when he slammed Michael to the floor. The sound from the impact made my bones shudder. Michael’s eyes flew opened from the blow and I heard the air rush from his lungs. Bright red, they stared back at him. Few times have I seen fear in a deo’s eyes, his was fear and rage filled. The black had stopped its advance. It sat on his neck, writhing like pinned serpents. Why? When released, the demon wants out, it won’t be held back. Lily glanced at Michael before wrapping her arms around Nathan’s neck. He looked at her. “Nathan, wake up, please!” Once those words were said, her lips were on his. His hand twitched, releasing Michael. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, the lips of a mere human had frozen the titan Nathan had become. Coughing, Michael took one glance at Lily before jumping at the blonde man. There was a brief moment of terror on his face before Michael’s fangs latched onto his neck. They fell backward behind the desk out of my view.
